khai dinh( 1885 – 1926) became emperor when he was 31 years old. he was well-known about: build places, like making up, wear colourful clothes and the first king of vietnam went board.
khai dinh tomb was built from 1920 to 1931. it took the longest time to build among tombs of nguyen emperor in hue. it was started building on september 4th, 1920 and took 11 years completely. in order to have enough money to build tomb, khai dinh raised tax to 30 per cent and this action was extremely against by people and he was hated the most among emperor in nguyen dynasty.
the architect of khai dinh tomb is the strange, new, unique, combined the traditional architecture of nguyen dynasty, the modern western architecture and showing the own characters of khai dinh emperor. the interior of thien dinh place of khai dinh tomb was wonderful designed and decorated by colourful glass and pottery.
comparing khai dinh tomb to the tombs of other nguyen emperor, khai dinh is the smallest in size but it took the longest time and money. khai dinh ordered people buy steel, cement, pottery, glass, porcelain from france, china and japan to build khai dinh tomb.
